Calamus a sweet reed

Calamus, also called sweet cane and sweet flag resembles a cattail a bit and also grows in wet areas like cattails. It’s used in perfumes and anointing oil. I’d love to smell it some time! I found a good link that tells about it here.

It is mentioned in the Bible in these versus: Isaiah 43:24, Ezekiel 27:19, Song of Solomon 4:14, Exodus 30:23 and Jeremiah 6:20.

Since I’m still studying the book of Isaiah I want to focus on that verse. It says in Isaiah 43:24 “Thou hast bought me no sweet cane with money, neither hast thou filled me with the fat of thy sacrifices: but thou hast made me to serve with thy sins, thou hast wearied me with thine iniquities.” The New King James version reads a little easier and with the same meaning, “You have bought Me no sweet cane with money, Nor have you satisfied Me with the fat of your sacrifices; But you have burdened Me with your sins, You have wearied Me with your iniquities.” I’ve noticed that lately I’ve really been laying my burdens on God, which is what we’re supposed to do, but I’ve only been focusing on myself and wallowing in my own self pity. I’ve done a readjustment and today I feel better for it. Yes I’m still giving my burdens to God, but also am praying more for others and giving God the praise and glory that He so rightfully deserves. It’s so so easy to focus only on ourselves and not others. I’m going to be making a conscious effort to praise God more and pray more for other people besides myself.
