Salix Babylonica (Weeping Willow or Babylon Weeping Willow) is a beautiful, graceful, flowy tree that grows around ponds or other bodies of water where it grows well in moist soil. They are strong but flexible and yielding to strong winds and storms. We should try and have faith like a willow when hard storms come up in our lives. Yes we may bend but we can snap back and recenter ourselves in Christ. In my personal life that’s the only way I’ve ever been able to weather the storms. If we put our focus on Jesus instead of ourselves then we can realign and readjust to get back on track. The way I do this is through prayer, studying my Bible, listening to faith filled podcasts and sometimes something as simple as just cranking up the worship and praise music. It’s hard sometimes when I’ve become comfortable with focusing on myself but when I get the focus off myself and onto Jesus then I can see and feel myself starting to bend back and withstand the storm until the next one comes along.
Versus about willows in the Bible
Isaiah 15:7 “Therefore the abundance they have gotten, and that which they have laid up, shall they carry away to the brook of the willows.”
Isaiah 44:4 “And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.”
Psalm 137:2 “We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.”
Job 40:22 “The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.”
Ezekiel 17:5 “He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a willow tree.”
Leviticus 23:40 “And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the Lord your God seven days.”
They are several types of willow but I have to say my favorite is the pussy willow. I love how the soft light grey flowers feel. These are called catkins and are the male plants. They look so nice just placed in a vase or you can make wreaths from them.
