The Rose of Sharon is a type of hibiscus that is mentioned in Song of Solomon 2:1. It says, “I am the rose of Sharon, And the lily of the valleys.” I did some research on how it got its name and what I found was it grows on the plain of Sharon at the foot of Mount Carmel, and is referred to as a meadow flower. Also the name Sharon has a Hebrew origin meaning fertile plain. I’ve never smelled a Rose of Sharon but its supposed to have a light floral smell.
Sharon is mentioned again in Isaiah 35:2. Isaiah 35:1-2 reads, “The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them, And the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose; It shall blossom abundantly and rejoice, Even with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, The excellence of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the Lord, The excellency of our God.” The desert symbolizes life without God but life with God gives joy and hope. Like the Rose of Sharon life with God will blossom abundantly. I’m taking comfort and strength in this chapter of Isaiah from feeling sad and disheartened lately. Further in the chapter, I’m taking comfort in how God will give me strength and will come through for me. And He always does! It may not be immediate or in our timing but we don’t always see the bigger picture. I’ve taken hope and comfort today from this. I will keep trying to be be patient knowing that God is working in the background. It’s such a lovely thing to blossom and flower in faith!
I found a lovely Rose of Sharon to order on Amazon. When I finally get settled into a new place I’d like to get one. https://www.amazon.com/Hibiscus-syriacus-Minerva-Sharon-lavender/dp/B06XQCZZMV/ref=sr_1_3?crid=5P3R1LMFWX4Y&keywords=rose%2Bof%2Bsharon&qid=1692894279&sprefix=rose%2Bof%2Bsharon%2Caps%2C159&sr=8-3&th=1#:~:text=%3Ciframe%20sandbox%3D%22allow,link_opens_in_new_window%3Dtrue%22%3E%3C/iframe%3E
