I don’t think this is an exhaustive list of the flowers and plants of the Bible, but ones I’ve found so far. Though I haven’t seen all of these in person, I’ll try and give a brief description of each and their reference in the Bible. Since there are quite a few, perhaps I’ll just post on one a week for now. If you have The Woman’s Study Bible there is a list of some on pages 1004 and 1005. I’ve linked this book at the bottom along with the Farmer’s Almanac should you want to learn about planting times. It was a great reference I used for planting in my garden this year. I think everyone in my family who has a garden has referenced the Farmer’s Almanac at some point in their life.
Lily of the Valley
King Solomon must have been such a lovely man with all his wisdom and lyricism. In Song of Solomon 2:1-2 we read, ” I am the rose of of Sharon, And the lily of the valleys. Like a lily among thorns, So is my love among the daughters.”
According to the Farmer’s Almanac, all parts of the lily are poisonous. Other names include, May Bells, Mary’s Tears, and Our Lady’s Tears. It is also the birth flower for May. Although it looks similar to hyacinth flowers, it’s actually related to the asparagus plant. The Farmer’s Almanac also states that, “In the language of flowers, the Lily of the Valley symbolizes the return of happiness.”
